1 PM Game

New York Giants 8 Oakland A's 5

by Matt "Tenner" Schmuck

This Week in Fat Ball.
Hey Team, put us in the book for our first win, our first of many.

Another great day to play baseball. Except for a little mud at Short today the field was awesome. I'll be filing my lawsuit this week, as it states clearly in my contract my feet should never go above my head.

We came out on top today, beating the Oakland A's in a great defensive game. Only one error recorded in today's game.

Chilly (pool boy) started for us on the hill. Chilly's first time out this year, he was either dead on lights out or 'BALL-FOUR'. It felt like every inning Chilly let the first two guys walk, then struck out the side. Tough way to win, but it worked today. Chilly's paralyzing slow ball was unhittable. Of course it didn't help that Tony behind the plate had the incredible shrinking strike-zone today. Chilly gave up four-runs, then Doug (420-foot foul-ball) Meyer took the mound in the last three innings to close the door only allowing one more run.

We had great defense again this week, with no recorded errors. And some pretty fancy fielding was noted today, like the basket catch in center by Doug 'Ruth' Meyer. And the great stop in the hole by Miller at Short. Of course then Miller starts thinking he's all that, and decides he needs to dive for a few balls. Great effort, and good thing we have a few weeks off for Miller to recover.

We actually had some team hitting today, here are the game stats: Total hits today 12, total walks 4.

Pool Boy Chilly 2 for 4

PeeWee Pederson 1 for 3

Mr. Simon 2 for 3 with an RBI

Ruth-Meyer 2 for 3 with a Double and an RBI

Tenner 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI

Miller 1 for 3 with an RBI

Pool Boy Bennett 0 for 3 with an RBI

Mr. Horn 0 for 2 with a walk

Leuders-Line 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI

Mrs. Simon 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI

Little Johnson 0 for 3

Pool Boy Chen 0 for 3

Pool Boy Chen Late yet again. Fines goes to Little Johnson for referring him to our team. Ben's on first two outs… TWO OUTS. Ball hit to the outfield, Mr. Simon base coaching first is screaming for Ben to run, yet there he stands… Little Johnson that's another buck. Oh but wait, Little Johnson is catching Chilly in the sixth inning, two outs…Two Outs… TWO OUTS, Chilly strikes out the batter, but Johnson throws the ball back to Chilly obviously doesn't know how many outs there are. Hey Little Johnson, yep you guessed it, THAT's A BUCK DUDE!

By far the funniest play of the day… Line drive in the 5.5 hole, Pool Boy Bennett on 1st, takes off for 2nd, but wait, the short stop for the A's makes a great diving catch, hops to his feet and fires back to first. Bennett stops on a dime… yeah right. Heads back to first, he's going to be out by 10-feet, here comes the throw, the slide back to first by Bennett, THE BALL GOES THROUGH FIRST TO THE FENCE…RUN BENNETT RUN!!! Like a huge Gazelle, Bennett stammers to his feet and takes off to 2nd yet again. Huffing and Puffing, dirt flying, sweat pouring out everywhere, here comes the throw…again, and he's OUT. It took Steve two innings to get his wind back.

Hey Pool Boy Bennett, by the way no cell phones in the dugout, especially when you are supposed to be pinch running… ring him up!

By far today the hit of the day was Doug 'Ruth' Meyer, turns on an inside pitch and crushes a ball over the bathrooms in right field into the top of the trees, the farthest ball I've ever seen hit at Riordan. Nice FOUL ball… Even Tony behind the plate said WOW!

For the last four years we have based our batting lineup on what we have fondly come to know as the Leuders-Line. Anyone below Scott Leuders average batted below him. Those of us at TWIB would just like to note that Miller, the batting leader last year, is below the Leuders-Line. Thus Scott Leuders… The Monkey is officially off your back, and proudly now sits on Millers. With just one hit so far this year. " The Miller-Line "
