After a well desrved Memorial respite WCFBA play moved to Willow Glen. Last time I was there I scored two touchdowns against the Rams in 1967 and missed the third quarter when I hurdled over a fallen tackler who reached up just as my jockstrap was over his head. Many thanks to Captain Steve for letting me have a pool game. I owe you one, in fact you can have mine this weekend!! |

930 AM GAME by Jim Realini Not much good to say about the Tokyo effort today except that if it weren't for Joe Gagliardo's "seeing-eye single" and Chad Cordiero's bingle, the A's pitchers would have tossed a no-hitter. In fact, Dave Gayner DID pitch a no-hitter for six innings behind some solid fielding and some weak at-em ball bouncers by the Asian Giants. The Giants, while missing a chance to keep up the heat on the First Place San Francisco Boys, did manage to tighten up the race for second with their uninspirired effort. I guess they were just overwhelmed by the absence of Rob "Flash" Weber. For a more uplifting report on this game you need to click here. |

130 PM Game by Jim Realini Elk Grove crawled back into the second place race at mid-season by dragging the Philadelphia A's back in the pack behind two solid hurling efforts by Bobby Hartkop and Carl Vargas. JC Penney caught a great 5-inning game for Bobby getting him to finally throw a quality start in spite of some silly early game fielding miscues. The Colonel teamed up with Carl Vargas over the final four as they really messed with the A's batting strokes. By the end of the game the A's were talking themselves into outs as Carl seemed to be making them hit his pitches ineffectually. The Giants backed their pitchers with a solid 11 hit attack led by none other than Carl Vargas with two solid singles and a loud double. John "BHL" Haines contined his quest for a "hundred-hit" season with two singles and Sugar Ray Mialovic crashed two long singles. Bobby Hartkop belted an inside the park double while Rob Lanterman, Ben Chen and the Colonel smacked singles. Kudo's to JC Penney who is really an inspiration to us all, particularly Willy Wineberg and Mike Desjardines, with his astounding weight-loss program. This weekend in Stockton I'll try my best to get some real food (and BEER) into him! |
