Ah... the goose greased field of dreams in Alameda. Great day for a triple header. Remember when this weekend was the A's 4-game Tournament with the guys from Tacoma and that wonderful High School field, Encinal? Oh well, we had a Simon family sighting, sans the recuperating Michael. Reminder to Alex, punching old soldiers could get your arm broke. I think Alex needs to try surfing the net looking for ways to get out of the wall lockers he's going to get stuffed into...... |

9 AM Game |

Noon Game The Tokyo Giants figured out the secret to beating the San Francisco Giants, hang in there and wait until Heath Keller finishes the 6th inning. Trailing 9-7 after 6, the Sushi men exploded for nine runs off John Haines eephus pitching and a suddenly porous SF defense. Don Hahn silenced the Giants in the 7th & 8th to get the win. Angie Simon caught Ruben Donig napping at third to snuff a fifth inning SF rally and Frank Weishaar got snuffed at second after a towering fly ball by Heath Keller went uncaught. What really killed the SF guys was the 18-hit bombardment by the Tokyo Giants, especially Mark Gemello's 5 hits (including a double) and Don Hahns four sharp singles. Dave DeCruz smacked a double and a single while Lynn Harkreider and Moochy Hughey each had two hit days. Mike Shaffer punched a double with Angie Simon and Ben Chen finishing off the attack for Tokyo. Frank Weishaar led the SF barrage with a single, double, and a triple (no Frank, running Terry home in your car DOESN'T complete the Cycle.) Steve Bennett, Todd West, and Don Dewitt each cracked doubles and Todd and Steve each added singles. Heath Keller, Andrew Greenlee, Ruben Donig and Jim Realini each belted singles to no avail for the Bay Area Giants. |

3 PM Game Lorne Johnson made his coaching debut with the NY Giants in the last game and he'll need two more if he's going to get above .500 pct. It was his fault in this extremely well played and exciting game. Elk Grove spotted New York a 3 run lead before tying the game in a furious 4th inning rally. In the sixth they pushed across the lead run and they were threatening to score more in the bottom of the 8th when time ran out. Bobby Hartkop, Randy Saladana, and Carl Vargas pitched well for the Elks with Randy Wallace garnering the win. Two plays stand out as big game web gems during this tussle. First, Steve Bennett's diving, rolling catch to shoot down an Elk rally. Another play came when Dave DeCruz playing against an over-shifted defense lofted a tall fly ball that hook out of reach of the scumpering Lorne Johnson and the hobbling Colonel to land short of third base and roll vigorously to the foul line where it literally halted smack dab in the middle of the chalk! Two silly plays were the individual efforts of John Haines and Chad Caliendo futilely chasing geese in the outfield. Caliendo led the Elks attack with four base hits while Lanterman and DeCruz both had two hit days. Carl Vargas slapped a double and Randy Wallace hit a single to complete the Elks attack. Bill Pedersen and Josh Lewis led NYG with two hits each and Patrick Pottgiesser slammed a double. John Haines, Steve Bennett, Rolly Hofstedt, and Jim Realini (#200!!) tried to help out making singles each. |
