KANGAROO COURT

I got on an airplane in San Jose this morning with 35 8th Graders to go to Washington DC. The following accounts are hearsay mostly. If you want more (especially you, Bobby Hartkop) then send me your thoughts. If I'm not at your game I can only talk about what you tell me, or I could make it up.... but that would be like fantasy you know....

Elk Grove Giants 9 vs San Francisco Giants 8

by Greg Terra

Where do I begin? I am not sure I can give you a play by play scenario, but to be up 8-0 and then self destruct is too much like real baseball. I know it happens, but it’s so hard to accept. We started out by getting a run here and a run there and we were up 5-0. We started to hit Harktop pretty good, so they brought in Randy Wallace and he lasted maybe 1 ½ innings. Vargas then came in and we got up 8-0. Vargas did ok, but he had a bad calf muscle a stiff back and his knee was sore. All of a sudden, they started to hit the ball to the left side at Peabody at third and Keller at short. Balls were getting past Doc and Keller could not find the handle on the ball. Frank was pitching in his usual fashion, but our defense started to fail. Richie Hertz had the GWRBI which was a clean line drive to right, too deep for an infielder to catch and too short for Willie to catch. Hertz hit it just right, a nice opposite field hit. And you know, there’s no defense for a clean base hit. Ruben Donig with the bags loaded in the bottom of the ninth and two outs snags a sharp liner to right on a bounce and then proceeds to cut down the runner at FIRST BASE um' excuse me, home plate, oh the guy beat the throw. The stats at the end were for them 9 runs, 15 hits and two errors and for us 8 runs, 14 hits and 5 errors. I must go now, my boss is lurking around here.
