From what I was told, it was a great day at Wilcox. A lot of
time has passed since that day, Mike Weir's tournament in
San Diego was another success and Barry got voted into the
All-Star Line-up. What I want to do is share a couple of
related thoughts about what a great "thing" this West Coast
Fantasy Baseball Association (it's more than just a league
of their own) really is.
First, did anyone happen to hear Alex Simon on the Damon
Bruce pre-game show from Acme Chop House on Saturday, June
30th? What a great job Alex did stuffing all those
Sabean-haters with his astute and accurate evaluations of
Sabean lately. I especially liked his characterization of AJ
Pierzynski as the most hated Giant of all time... wow!!!
Even worse than Armando and Johnny Lemaster... Damon was so
impressed he expressed fear for his job, but Alex stepped up
to the plate and boasted that "he's after Kruk and Kipe's
show when the time comes!" Hey,Alex, you're ready
now.
The Giants survived Terra's near fatal outfield gaff and
another harrowing ninth inning saved by the gutty G-Man
striking out the last man again after Sugar Ray came up
gimpy. Greg Terra and Ray Mialovic led the Giants 15-hit
outburst with three bingles apiece followed by Mark Gemello
and Matt Schmuck's two hit days. Mark's first hit was a base
loaded double worth 3 ribbies. Henry Perezalonzo, Dave
DeCruz, Steve Conroy, Drew Greenlee, and Trader Dennis Horn
all hopped on the Giant hit parade for a single
each.
The A's blasted 11 hits on the day with Craig Alexander, Pat
Macias, Mike Byron, Mike Mello, Jeff Macausland, and Dave
Gamson smacking singles with Sil Krevocheza collecting two
for himself. The big A on the day went to Rod Oehrlein who
slashed a single, lashed a triple, and then lined a lazer
over Diablo's head for an ISTP Grand Slam!
Gemello pitched the first five holding the A's to 4 unearned
runs giving way to Sugar Ray who endured the ISTP before
retiring with two outs in the ninth due to an strained
hamstring, hip, knee flexor whatever. G-man came in and
fanned the last A's batter with the tying run on third for
the second week in a row.
All I know about this game was what Chilly and Frank Told
me. Chilly said, pretty good day for me. Frank said "we
would have won if we didn't let in 7 unearned runs." They're
both right. #1. Terra. ISTP
gift.
